(Looking For) Miller's Cave - International Submarine Band

Post by Robert Underkoffler »

Here's me trying to learn another Jay Dee Maness steel piece. I've been struggling trying to get this one down. I've learned some small bits later in the song, but I must be misplacing some notes at the end of this lick. Specifically 54 seconds into the song when the steel comes in. If anyone has an idea, it would help me piece together everything else.

man I love JayDee's playing on that album!

I'm not so good with making tab but I've got the solo pretty well figured out if you're still interested.
I could do a short video

It's been a bit and I didn't see this until now, but a video would be great help if you're still willing. I'm trying to work on ear training random licks from other songs, but also Strong Boy on that same Safe At Home album at the moment. It's a super quick one that doesn't last very long and it sneaks up on you, but I think I got a lot of it down. JayDee is one crazy chicken pickin' pro!

another killer break from JayDee, I've got it down ok.
I'll try and make a short video this weekend, most of this stuff is just A&B pedals with the occasional D lever and C pedal.

I'm woodshedding for a gig next week covering Sweetheart of the Rodeo and I'm noticing a few of the same moves from JayDee. he's always been one of my very favorites and I'm still learning from the guy almost 30 years later!

coincidentally, I've been digging into the Hee Haw and Buck Owens Ranch shows from 1969 that feature JayDee.
here's a youtube playlist!

I didn't know JayDee was on HeeHaw, that's very cool. I'll check that out. I got two physical tapes of HeeHaw a while ago that I still need to put in and watch on the tele. I did binge a good few of them on youtube with Merle and Roy Clark in the past. JayDee was certainly the biggest reason I went and got a pedal steel to begin with last year. I've been enamored with most of the steel players that played alongside Gram for several years, so Lloyd and Sneaky Pete are up there too. I'm just really captivated by JayDee's picking.
