DeWitt Scott, Jr.

Post by Michael Scott »

It is with a heavy heart that we let you know that our brother, DeWitt A. Scott, Jr., passed away this morning. DeWitt was an icon at Scotty’s Music, the ISGC, SGI and the SGHOF. He played music all around St. Louis for many years. He and a group of his best friends had jam sessions at Scotty’s on a regular basis. His willingness to help in any way he could touched many players and made him a best friend for anyone who met him.

Brother, father, veteran and namesake...DeWitt will be missed.

This is really sad news and I'm shocked. I had a music connection with the Scott Family many years. I did business with both Scotty Sr. and DeWitt Scott Jr. Prayers for the family and friends of the Scott Family.

We had a lot of good conversation when I would go by the store on my lunch break. Rest in Peace, Big Dee.

Huge loss. I had the honor of helping Dewitt in the Scotty's room at the last few conventions. He was a great friend.

My sympathy to the Scott Family. My Peavey Nashville 112 amp came from your store. I visited the store in 1980 just after I began with pedal steel playing, which is much earlier than when I bought the 112 amp.
May God comfort you.

What a dear, kind soul DeWitt was to me since meeting in the early '70's,
working together and friend and brother since then. A beautiful soul.

Every time I visited my home town of St Louis I made sure to go to Scotty's. Dewitt Jr was always there and most of the time Scotty was, too. Occasionally Michael was there. It was always a great time there visiting the Scott family, talking shop, playing steels downstairs; just hanging out! I miss those days and pass my condolences on to the family.

For all folks that did business with Scotty’s Music, DeWitt was one of the best friends we could ever have.

Although he did not play Steel himself, DeWitt was a musician at heart ( lead guitar) and treated everyone very professionally and fairly.

DeWitt was a good man.

Dewitt was always so friendly helpful whenever I'd stop by the store. No rock star attitudes at Scotty's... just a lot of encouragement - even for a perpetual newbie at steel like myself. Condolences.

I hated to hear that, I would call the store and order things from him and it would arrive in a few days, had a lot of good visits when I would come to the store and on the phone. I miss that store and everybody that worked there RIP Dewitt...
