**NEW** Speaker Impulse Response packages..!!
From the time I started profiling amplifiers for the Kemper/Quad Cortex/Tonex platforms, I noticed there was a lack of support for pedal steel guitar speaker impulse responses. Eminence, Celestion, Ownhammer, & others support the newer Neo-Dym speakers, but I am talking about the older wonderful sounding classic speakers we all know and love such as the Black Widow and JBL D130 lines. I am a few days away from completing a massive project on these two lines of speakers as well as a few other obscure speakers used in pedal steel guitar amps in the past. They will be available in 44 kHz & 48 kHz formats.
I am also excited to announce I have also formatted them for compaitibility with the Sonicake Sonic IR of which I got Johnny Cox & Tommy Detamore to experiment with. You will be hearing a lot about this tiny box used in conjunction with modelers. I will say that the particular JBL D130 used in this package is absolutely pristine. This speaker along with the particular capture techniques have allowed me to create a product that I feel stands on its own against any JBL D130 Impulse Response packages that I have heard to date.
Stand by as I will release more information in a few days...
Thanks...!!

Joe that's great. I own the Sonicake IR box and the stock IRs were less than pristine. Your work will embellish the unit to a higher standard.

I love the Sonicake! A number of usable preset cabinets and those that I got from Joe are outstanding (as well as his Tonex models!). It has revolutionized my setup and waaaay lighter with a myriad of sounds now at my fingertips. I have my presets organized from std marvelous Standel to chorused Peavey to phase shifted Webb to overdrive to Dobro. Way to go and thank you Joe!!!

I take it you use in ears and go to FOH on your gigs to use those IRs?
I have used the ToneX pedal exclusively since September, thanks to Joe's great work with amp presets.None of my gigs require FOH, so I don't get to use IRs. Darn.

Re: **NEW** Speaker Impulse Response packages..!!
Larry, the reason the stock IR's aren't that great is because of the file size. Sonicake only put 235 KB of hard drive space in the box..... Another 30 KB would have fixed the issue, as it seems you need a minimum of 23.5 KB for the IR to really translate. At 23.5, you only get 8 out of the 11 knob settings, but those 8 sound much better. The file size of the stock IRs is 12 KB.
Jim, glad you are finding it useful. And much thanks to you and Ron for the testimonials...!!
Ron, if you grabbed a Tonex cab, you WOULD be able to use the cab IRs.......not trying to make you spend more....LOL...!!!

Re: **NEW** Speaker Impulse Response packages..!!
I am a satisfied customer of Joe’s products and just purchased the IR pack and an another amp over the weekend. Joe this new Cain amp is really nice!
I plan on purchasing the Sonic Cake IR pedal soon but even putting the IR in the Tonex pedal is pretty incredible.
I have been searching for a couple years of a way to play through headphones that was satisfying and thanks to Joes products I have found it!
Thanks so much, your stuff is truly the best!

Re: **NEW** Speaker Impulse Response packages..!!
Vintage IR pack
The Vintage IR pack is the culmination of approximately 4 months of intense deep dive into the art and science of creating Speaker Impulse Responses utilizing AI along with the latest mic modeling technology to forge a product long absent from the pedal steel guitar world and the music recording industry.
The speaker impulse responses contained in this pack include:
JBL D130
JBL K130
Altec 418b
Stephens TruSonic 15 (used by the Standel Co. in place of JBL D130F)
Black Widow 1501
Black Widow 1502
I started creating my captures with a few industry-standard microphones with a long track record for miking speakers. The idea came to me to experiment with the Townsend Lab Sphere modeling mic to compare the results. It turns out that when the resulting IR was not identical to the original microphone, the modeled version not only sounded better, but had better separation. At this point I scrapped my previous work & switched to using the Sphere for my captures. I later found ways to incorporate AI into the modeling process and the accuracy increased exponentially. So, while the entire process has been incredibly painstaking, the resulting product turned out so much better. I am proud to present it to the steel guitar community, as well as the music community at large in hopes that it will be of use to players everywhere.
There are 3 locations I place the microphone to capture the speaker: Cap, Cap Edge, & the Cone. You may see titles such as CapEdge1, CapEdge2, & CapEdge3. The closest mic position = 1 and the farthest mic position = 3.
Know that the farther away from the speaker, the more time the sound wave has to build. Also, know that ribbon mics such as the R121 & M160 have what is known as proximity effect. Proximity effect refers to the phenomenon where a directional microphone exhibits a noticeable increase in low-frequency response when the sound source is located close to it. This means the microphone will capture more bass frequencies as you move the sound source closer, and less bass as you move it further away.
This Vintage pack is available in the following sample rates: 44 kHz, 48 kHz, & 96 kHz (in the case of the JBL D130 & K130). The cost will be $15 for current Tonex/Quad Cortex clients and $35 for non-clients.
You can find more in-depth information as well as some new discoveries in my pdf at the link below:

Yes, they are now available. They should be compatible with any device that accepts impulse responses in the .wav format. I provide 44 kHz & 48 kHz sample rates. The JBL D130 & K130 are available in those 2 as well as 96 kHz sample rates. The Black Widow 1501 will soon be available in 96 kHz as well.
Thanks for your interest.
