E9 Pedal Steel Sounds on Lap Steel Waltz Across Texas

recorded a classic Ernest Tubb song trying to get some pedal steel inflections. pardon me if you think im overdoing the moving thing, but after all it is the object to try to get some pedal sounds. in order to move some things under the melody notes on a lap steel, it helps to have some open strings sustaining on top while you move the bar with notes underneath. a heavy bar will help with the long sustain sound that a pedal guitar has. i managed to get in a few billy byrd licks and a patti page tune. just having fun...

thanks for the listen. this is a 17 string guitar i made. yep its a mad scientist scenario... the tuning would just keep you awake at night like it does me.

I’ve built several lap steels….6,8,10,12netc. This one is more of a simple wide body slab of solid maple. I made a 14 string keyless tuner and added three machine heads later. Here is a pic of the tuner.
